Before coming to VMI, she taught at Washington and Lee University. Her most recent article, Emblems and Hybridity in a Southern German Epitaph Sculpture, appeared in Hybridity in Early Modern Art (Routledge, 2021). He participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of a Military Transition Team (MiTT); He trained to deploy forces as an Observer Controller-Trainer (OCT) for missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo. Many of the novel compounds he synthesized are at the National Institutes of Health: Molecular Library for Small Molecule Repository to evaluate their biological activity.

Were told Yahner had a great, immediate impact on the Delaware defense he helped the Blue Hens reach the FCS Semifinals in the 2020-21 spring season, with Yahners linebackers aiding a CAA defense that held opponents to a league-low 14.4 points per game and a league-best 118.4 yards per game on the ground. She is native to Rockbridge County.
At VMI, his research efforts focus on utilizing electrochemical methods to analyze inorganic molecules that his students synthesize, in order to determine their ability to produce usable combustible fuels from electricity.
